Reflecting on 2024: EuRyQa's Milestones in advancing Rydberg Quantum Computing

As 2024 concludes, the EuRyQa consortium reflects on a year marked by significant advancements in Rydberg Quantum Computing, collaborative achievements, and strategic initiatives that have strengthened Europe's position in the global quantum technology landscape. Moreover, as we transition into 2025, designated as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, EuRyQa remains committed to pioneering research, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation in Rydberg Quantum Computing, contributing to Europe's leadership in the global quantum landscape.

Key milestones and events:

  • UN Proclaims 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology: On June 7, 2024, the United Nations designated 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). This global initiative aims to elevate public understanding of the critical role quantum science and its applications play in our world.
  • Release of Qruise Quantum Benchmark v0.1: In September 2024, EuRyQa announced the release of Qruise Quantum Benchmark v0.1, an open-source resource now available on GitHub. This milestone is a significant step in the project's mission to provide accessible quantum benchmarking tools to the research and developer community.
  • Fourth Progress Meeting in Crete: On October 7th, 2024, the consortium convened in Heraklion, Greece, for an in-person progress meeting. Representatives from all project partners presented their latest results, highlighted recent achievements, and discussed future strategies to advance Rydberg Quantum Computing in Europe.
  • Special Session at EQTC 2024: In November 2024, the European Quantum Technology Conference (EQTC) featured a Special Session on Benchmarking of Quantum Computing, co-organised and sponsored by EuRyQa. This session brought together leading experts to discuss the pivotal role of benchmarking in shaping the future of quantum computing.
